CHI paper receives Honorable Mention

Our paper, “Human-in-the-Loop Interfaces for Trustworthy AI Decision Support,” co-authored with Riya Patel, received an Honorable Mention Award (top 5% of submissions) at the ACM CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems.

Study overview

The paper reports on a mixed-methods study of 48 clinicians interacting with three different AI-assisted diagnostic interfaces. We found that:

• Confidence calibration displays significantly improved appropriate reliance on model suggestions.
• Clinicians preferred interfaces that surfaced evidence rather than raw confidence scores.
• Time pressure substantially changed how much clinicians engaged with explanatory content — a factor often ignored in lab studies.

Next steps
